Still Rowing After all these Years

Nancy Kennedy, Octogenarian Rower

"In a previous life I was quite sedentary. Then I discovered new and wonderful activities, such as competitive swimming with a Master’s team, backpacking, and rowing. Rowing is the one I have stuck with. It is about the best form of exercise I can think of. It works most body parts and offers up fresh air and nature as well.

The first half of my life wasn’t bad, but this second half is just a lot more fun. Nothing wrong with being a late bloomer.”

After years of wondering what she wanted to be when she grew up, at age 52, Nancy discovered weaving and wondered where it had been all her life. Now way past 52 she can’t imagine not weaving. Rugs are her specialty and she has a gigantic complicated loom that is housed in a cage to keep her cat at bay. Most people would cage their pets before themselves, but it is easier to give him free run of the rest of the house. Her very abbreviated artist statement says it all. She weaves art underfoot.

And as Nancy's rowing buddy, I can say that she is our senior rower in every way -  calm, confident, careful, supportive, and the one who organizes our rowing days.
